GLEAN: Make Art Not Landfill
After a very successful first year, the partnership of crackedpots, Recology and Metro is pleased to announce another opportunity for local artists to create art from discarded materials and help educate our region about excessive waste generation and consumption.
This year, we’ve given the program a new name: GLEAN, meaning “to gather, collect bit by bit, or pick over in search of relevant material.”
We will again select five artists who will glean materials from Metro’s Central transfer station (where garbage goes before being sent to the landfill) for six months to make art that will be shown in a public exhibition in September 2012.
Application packets will be accepted from January 2–31. They must be received by Jan. 31, or they will not be accepted.

A jury of arts and environmental professionals will select eight artists to be interviewed in February. From these artists, five will be chosen to participate in the program. Selected artists will each receive a $2,000 stipend and 80% commission on art sales generated from the exhibition.
